Who gives a damn???? I am so sick and tired of seeing all these arguments with those who are natural bashing those with relaxers. Now first off, it isn't everyone. Let's make that clear. I am only referring to the natural radicals out there. I was natural until 7th grade. At that point my mother relaxed my hair. My hair was thick and down my back. It was so long people would insist that I was mixed.
Sidenote: YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE MIXED TO HAVE LONG HAIR. IT'S CALLED TAKING CARE OF YOUR HAIR (THIS IS ANOTHER BLOG FOR ANOTHER TIME..LOL)
I remained relaxed until 2006. I decided to try and grow my hair out because even though it was long and thick I knew I had overlayed perm on it a time or two and I wanted to get it healthy again. In 2008, I decided to relax it again after I got the damaged hair off. Not almost a year later, I am contemplating growing it out. Only because relaxer doesn't straighten my hair too much anymore and the texture is the same as when I was natural.
I say all this to say, neither makes one a better person. I have flip flopped so many times I can't count. But so the hell what? Everybody doesn't want to be a radical African American. Everybody doesn't like tight curls, afros, and naps. Everybody doesn't have manageable natural hair. So back the hell off of people. And stop talking about the white mans chemicals because a black woman made it. And she made MILLIONS!!. I was not born in Africa and the only thing I own to my ancestor is to get my ass up and vote, get an education, and stay out of jail. I don't have to go without relaxer to be close to my roots.
So my opinion, if you want silky str8 hair slap some damn perm on your head or sew-in some weave. If you want to be natural, chop off the "white mans poison" and start over. Whatever the hell your pleasure is, no one has the right to condemn you for it.
Our ancestry alone makes us beautiful. Who cares about your hair?
